Anyhoo...
So...how did we get here? That's what Demolition Man and I have been wondering too. Life's a funny mix of ups and downs, lefts and rights. One minute things are plodding along nicely and the next thing you know, you've been smacked in the face with a four-by-two and you're left wondering "where in the hell did that come from?"
Our four-by-two was the realisation that something had to give, or in this case, go. We'd been struggling along for some time trying to keep everything hunky-dory, but little bit by little bit everything was starting to fall apart. Things were getting tougher with the business (Did I tell you we run our own business? Oh. Well we run our own business. There, you're all caught up.) The business is our baby. We bought it as a run down shadow of its former self. We have spent hours upon hours upon hours painting, cleaning, analysing, processing, re-stocking. Hours I tell you. There was no way we were going to give up on the business. Plus in the long run, it would be more profitable than the house could ever dream to be. (Poor House. But it really wasn't trying hard enough.) At the same time we were struggling to make ends meet each week. The main killer was the mortgage. All we could think was that it was money that could be more useful in the business.
So what to do? Well, we're doing the unthinkable (at least to some). We're throwing caution to the wind. Letting the chips fall where they may. Taking the plunge. We're doing what any rational grown-up would do.
We've sold the house and bought a bus.
.......
Wait, let me clarify. The house isn't sold yet, but it's on our 'to do list'. Hopefully within the next month or so it will be on the market. But we have bought the bus:
:D
Meet Donald. He's a 1966 Leyland Tiger Cub. Formerly a MTT (Metropolitan Transport Trust) passenger bus, he is going to be our new home. As you can see, he's had a bit of a rough life, but we intend to fix that. He runs (we drove him home) but not registered, which is something we are considering doing once we are finished (helllloooo holiday time!)
It's a big risk, we know that. But it's one that we are willing to take. We are talking about the bigger picture here. And besides, we've decided that it's high time it's all about us and what we want. We know what we're doing (kinda) and if it all collapses in a heap and Demolition Man and I end up living in a cardboard box So.Be.It. (You will be kind enough to throw some scraps our way as you walk past, won't you? Preferably chocolate scraps....)
But in the meantime, we're getting stuck into renovating Donald. Hopefully there won't be too many nasty surprises along the way, and at the end of it we'll have a fantastic house-bus (we are not American so it is not a 'motorhome' or an 'RV'. No offence to any Americans, but I call it how I see it). So here's to old endings, new beginnings and many many episodes to come.
